Introducing The Creating Me Journals | A Legacy Journal Series

You know those ideas you come up with that you push to the back of your mind? The ideas that are really cool, but that you simply don’t have (or want to make) time for? The Creating Me Journal Series started out that way; an idea that was on the back burner for a year or more. I had a day job to focus on, a little boy to raise, and a baby girl to grow.
Then, one day, not long after my daughter was born, I was faced with an incredibly difficult career decision. The company I was working for during maternity leave started having financial issues, and I was demoted through no fault of my own. And while being a full-time mom was never something I’d ever planned or really considered, I chose to quit my job and give stay-at-home motherhood a go.
At the time, my mom was nannying for us, which we loved to no end. She decided to stay on for a few months as I transitioned out of my job and into this new life. Not only did this give me the freedom to start The Creating Me Journals, but it also gave me the chance to wrap my head around this new life I’d chosen for myself, which many of you know is not super easy.
As I started building the journal series, I focused on two main struggles I’ve always faced when it came to the concept of writing my own autobiography. First, I was afraid that I’d miss something incredibly important involving my past. Second, I never really had an idea of how I want to organize the stories. Chronologically? Would I Tarantino it? Would I just randomly throw things in as I remembered them? And the more I thought about writing my autobiography, the more I realized I wasn’t ready to write the story, I was still gathering it.
I really just wanted a place to organize my thoughts that felt sacred, and thus, the concept of The Creating Me Journals was born.
I couldn’t tell you why I specifically chose to focus on these journals during this crazy transition of my life, it just felt fitting. Maybe it was me trying to piece together what had just happened with my career, and all the drama that comes with working for people you’re related to. Maybe I was trying to avoid processing what happened, or maybe it was simply the “well, it’s now or never” mentality. I couldn’t tell you, but regardless, they came together seamlessly and remarkably quickly.
I started with Remembering Me, because I truly wanted to be able to create a clear timeline of everything that I’ve experienced in my life, even though I wasn’t sure I could actually fully remember all of it.
Collecting Me was the easiest journal to create. Back in 2021, I created a 3-hour Legacy Video of my grandparents asking them various questions about both of their lives, and I ended up using pretty much the same questions.
Then, the namesake. I wanted Creating Me to be the journal that rocks you to your core, and makes you so self aware that you feel like you’ve leveled up your life in so many ways by simply filling it out.
Then came The Elevating Me Journal, designed to help you set and accomplish your goals.
This full collection would not be complete without Reflecting Me, a blank journal with numbered pages for you to reference throughout the other journals.
The craziest part of all of it is the fact that this platform didn’t exist in this form at that time (October of 2024). The journals were my gateway into a reality I hadn’t yet begun to dream about… a reality in which documenting your life for you is the ultimate experience.
At the time, I thought I was creating a journal system, and now it feels more like a philosophy. It’s the belief that documenting your life isn’t just about preserving memories, but understanding yourself. When you understand yourself, you make better decisions. You trust yourself more, stop chasing goals that belong to other people, and you start building a life that actually feels like your own. Very few people know who they are at their core, and there is serious magic in discovering that.
You cannot be successful if you haven’t yet defined what success means to you.
You cannot reach your dreams if you don’t know what your dreams are.
You cannot be happy if you don’t know what it is that makes you happy.
See you,
Amy
