I Couldn’t Stay Consistent With Journaling Until I Let Go of Doing It “Right.”

Whether you are someone who journals consistently, or you’re someone who’s looking to start journaling, AI can enhance the experience tremendously, and the best part is that all of it is your own self reflection. You aren’t using the platform as an information source, but rather a guide. It can help you personally interrogate yourself until you’ve found resolution, or at the very least have you considering various directions in which you can turn to get yourself out of whatever hole you’ve dug for yourself.
Yes, I see the irony here. Journaling is supposed to be slow, reflective, and human. Believe it or not, I was incredibly hesitant to step into the world of AI in any shape or form, but before you completely dismiss the idea of using ChatGPT for journaling, hear me out.
Here are 5 ways AI has improved my journaling processes:
1. It’s Keeping Me Consistent
AI has not replaced my journaling practices, it’s removed the friction that kept me from being consistent. The whole idea of documenting your life is about gaining clarity, and having the ability to consistently gain that clarity is life changing.
2. It’s Eliminated Writer’s Block
If I’m not sure what to journal about, I simply give ChatGPT an issue I’m facing and ask it to provide me with prompts. The best part? If you really want to be brave, you can give it your exact frustration or situation, and it will turn your mental mess or spiral into prompts that actually make a difference.
3. It’s Organizing My Thoughts
There’s a LOT going on in my brain right now, and having somewhere to dump all of my thoughts is great, but a blank piece of paper just isn’t cutting it anymore. I give ChatGPT the brain dump, and it organizes the thoughts so that I can not only journal in a way that will make sense when I read it back to myself, but I’m also not leaving out any important moments of my week.
4. It’s Giving Me Deeper Self Awareness
Journal prompts are everything, but sometimes you just can’t quite ask yourself the right questions. ChatGPT is the third party who’s asking all of the right questions, and the best part is that my answers are mine. I’m not worried about whether or not the information it’s providing me is accurate. My self reflection is on a serious deep dive, and I’m all for it.
5. It’s Helping Me Convert Realizations Into Actionable Steps
Journaling on my own often resulted in me just venting and never really getting anywhere after. I still felt gutted, and sometimes I wasn’t even sure why I’d journaled about it. ChatGPT is helping me take those frustrations and consider the steps to take next.
Thoughts? I’m genuinely curious!
See you!
Amy
